A future where all animals live free from fear

The board of Free to Be Fearless has been involved in animal rescue for many years. We created this rescue to help save more lives and to help change how animals are viewed.  We’re intentionally keeping things small and focused so we can give each animal the attention they deserve and still help where we can, including transport. With your support, we can continue making a lasting impact for years to come.

our purpose

Our Mission

Our mission is to help ensure the safety and well being of animals through rescue, healing, transport, fostering, adoption and education. We believe every animal deserves to live a life free from fear, suffering, and exploitation.

Our Vision

We envision a world where all animals are treated with dignity and respect and live a life free from fear, suffering and exploitation

The story behind our logo

Each animal in our logo represents a real animal who made a profound impact on the members of our board. These animals changed the way we see the world, deepened our sense of purpose, and help inspire the mission behind our rescue.

We wanted to honor them in a way that would last forever, so we gave them a permanent place in our logo—where their stories can live on and be shared with everyone who connects with our rescue.

Our logo isn’t just a symbol. It’s a tribute to the animals who shaped our hearts and helped guide us toward creating a safe, loving home for all beings..

Athena

This quirky, perfect little chicken was rescued on March 9th, 2024. She was loved by so many and had a whole team involved in her rescue. Christina, along with Tess from Rise of the Pig, pulled her from a terrible neglect and hoarding situation, and Christina then helped foster her with support from Eleni at Wayward Animal Sanctuary.

During her time with us, she had several vet visits to investigate her unusual behavior. While her neurological issues were never fully diagnosed, she seemed perfectly happy being herself. She always needed to be perched on something, adored her snacks, and loved to boss around her little friends — truly the boss of her flock. Athena had an unapologetic “I don’t care” attitude, keeping everyone on their toes and making us laugh every day.

She spent the rest of her days at Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve, cared for by Sheryl and her team. Sadly, she passed away about 1.5 years after her rescue, but she left a giant feather-shaped mark on all our hearts — a reminder of her spunky spirit and the joy she brought to everyone around her.

Penny

Christina's constant shadow (and she wouldn’t have it any other way), she seems to know where she is at all times. Penny loves to just stand and stare at Christina...and even likes to break open the bathroom door (privacy is overrated). This pig has changed Christina's life for the better. She is pure 100% attitude and absolutely runs the household, Christina and her cats just fell in line. She demands snacks anytime Christina is in the kitchen... she wants what she wants when she wants it and can’t be bothered with waiting one second too long. You can find her most of the time laying in any one of her 4 beds or her tent loaded with blankets and stuffed animals. If its winter I can guarantee she will not be seen outside for more than 5 minutes at a time, summer she extends it to 20. She is Christina's best friend in the world and they both wouldn't want it any other way.

Berty

Berty changed so many lives. She was pure kindness and strength. Anyone who got to be around her was lucky to have been in her presence. She always had a lot to talk about, loved some good classical music and enjoyed all of the pets she could get. We are all better humans for knowing someone like her.

Bentley

This dog was something. Just pure love. Christina got him when he was only 6 weeks old and she was 21, they were both just kids growing up together. He was one of the best friends Christina has ever had. Bentley just loved literally everyone...well every human.   He just wanted to play and be pet 24/7. This dog had the patience of a saint and wanted to say hi to every person he saw, he was not such a fan of being friends with all the dogs. He LOVED being in the car and going on adventures, camping, hikes, playing in the snow, and just loving life.  Bentley's big smile and infectious positivity is missed every single day.

Shamus

This dog was one in a million, and Bentleys complete opposite. He came to Christina at about 3 years old in 2009.  His owners didn’t want him anymore. He was terrified, especially of men.  He was Christina's ride or die. Unlike Bentley, shamus did NOT love everyone and he did have quite the rap sheet for biting. But once you were in with shamus, you were in for life and he loved you unconditionally and maybe a little obsessively. He loved kids, especially Christina's nephew Gianni and let me tell you this dog put up with A LOT from this kid. Bentley was his best friend in the world and he couldn't stand being apart from Bentley even for a minute. Absolutely a stage 5 clinger. He wasn’t a fan of playing with toys, he just wanted to cuddle and wrestle with his brother. He loved to chase squirrels and birds and bark at everything that moved. He loved the park and meeting other dogs (just not the humans...my spirit dog) and was a huge fan of camping in the tent.  Not a day goes by that  we all don't miss this clingy little man.

Opie

Oh this cat- She is something alright. She and her two sisters were adopted by Christina.  Christina was helping with TNR and a women had taken them in as little 1lb kittens.  Their mom stopped coming by to feed them and the woman didn't know what to do with them. Christina scooped them up to “foster” them and here we are 3 years later, oops. Opie is the definition of “I do what I want, and don’t care what you have to say about it”. She and Penny are closely  bonded.  Penny tells her to go away but Opie completely ignores her and just continues to cuddle her. So basically Opie has forced her way into penny’s bed and left penny with no choice (cat 1, pig 0). She loves people and loves to cuddle, sleeps on Christina's chest every night. She loves to jump in the fridge to explore as soon as the door is opened.  As soon as ANY door is opened she views it as a personal invitation to explore.. She likes to “assist” Christina when she is on the computer by walking across the keyboard.   She’s the assistant you never really wanted... but we would be lost without her. Love this cat so much!

Charlie

Charlie is an Ayrshire steer who was rescued from a dairy farm in Rhode Island. He was intended to become veal but fate stepped in. As soon as Charlie was born the farmers felt that Charlie was special.  He was born with a big white S on his face and maybe that’s what was appealing to them or maybe his irresistible personality….but whatever the reason, they agreed to release him to one of our board members. Charlie came to his forever home on October 9, 2015 at only 3 months old. From the day Charlie arrived, he was extremely friendly. He acts like a gigantic puppy and at 2,100 lbs his size can be intimidating but his heart is even bigger. If he knows you, he treats you to gentle nudges and sand paper kisses. If he doesn’t know you, he can’t contain his excitement to find out who you are and what snacks you brought him. The best way to break the ice with Charlie is some chin scratches, a full body rake massage, and of course….SNACKS! We’re not sure if Charlie understands that he’s not a lap cow but we’re still working on it. We love our gentle giant Charlie!

Wesley

Wes was rescued from a breeding farm who used their sheep for wool production. As with most places who use animals for human gain, the males are generally only used for breeding and sold off at auction. When that seemed to be the fate for Wes, one of our board members stepped in and rescued Wes. He was rescued on April 3, 2010 at only 5 weeks old. A tiny little man but always a gentleman. As a bottle baby Wes caught on quickly that we were there to help him and became EXTRA friendly. Wes had a voice that was unmatched and he would start yelling at us as soon as he caught a glimpse of any one of the us in the morning. He would yell at us until he was fed (which was always first)…and then proceed to try to break into the feed room to see how he could "help"…or hinder the morning routine. Wes was always a mama’s boy. He loved snuggles and cuddles and his mushy personality made everyone who met him fall in love. He was a Romeo in sheep’s clothing. Wes passed away on January 23, 2025 surrounded by his favorite humans and his family of goats and sheep.

Bowie

Bowie was rescued by a local animal shelter. He was running wild on abandoned state land and hiding out in broken down buildings. The shelter called one of our board members on September 26, 2020 and he was at his forever home by that afternoon. We don’t know exactly how old Bowie is but he was estimated to be around 2 years old when he found us. We believe that he must have been someone's goat before he he was lost and was possibly dumped there.  He was obviously comfortable with people but nobody ever came back for him. Right off the bat he was lovable…maybe too lovable. He is a golden retriever in a goats body. He demands human attention and ALWAYS prefers humans to any other animal. Bowie comes running whenever we enter his pasture and he MUST lean against you. Bowie is a crowd favorite with his beautiful stark white coat and over the top personality. You will often find his beard braided because Bowie loves the attention and nobody can deny him a salon makeover. Bowie is the only goat who enjoys being in Isolation pens. Its common practice to separate animals who have ailments or are recovering and need special treatment. Bowie has caught onto this and tries to break into Isolation areas while everyone else is trying to break out. We are sure that he sees how extra spoiled he would be if he could just get inside. We love our Bowie and his lovable antics.
